Health & Safety and the Environment

Town & Country Trees recognise the paramount importance of safety in arboriculture and we believe that it is our responsibility to ensure that all employed tasks are completed to correct procedure thus ensuring that any accidents and injury are kept to the bare minimum.

At Town & Country Trees we have assessed the significant health, safety and environmental hazards posed by our Company's activities, and an appropriate set of arrangements has been implemented to control these risks. The efficiency of our arrangements is monitored and reviewed on a regular basis to ensure their continuous improvement.

Work Safety and Environmental protection is a fundamental part of our principles. We aim to ensure the continued success of our company by maintaining a safe working environment that promotes the health, performance and enthusiasm of our employees as well as taking effective measures to protect the environment.

All our work is completed in accordance with the British Standard 3998 'tree work' 2010 and the AFAG (The Arboriculture and Forestry Advisory Group guidelines), FASTCo (The Forestry & Arboricultural Safety & Training Council), and The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.

Specific safety measures Town & Country Trees implement:

  • A detailed site specific risk assessment is completed at the initial consultation and is reviewed again by our team before beginning any work
  • We provide comprehensive method statements where required
  • All our equipment is repeatedly maintained, inspected and tested in line with P.U.W.E.R and L.O.L.E.R regulations 1998.
  • All our highway operations are completed in accordance with chapter 8 of The New Roads and Street Works Act 1991
  • All our team hold the relevant City & Guilds (NPTC)and NPORS operator certificates of competence in chainsaw, tree climbing and machinery operations
  • All our team are registered with the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS)
  • All our team are trained in first aid and as fire marshals with the St John Ambulance
  • Town and Country Trees is a CHAS (Contractors Health & Safety Scheme) and EXOR Management accredited company

One particular element of Town & Country Trees ethos is to raise awareness, importance and value that trees provide within our urban environment. Trees are essential to all life. They provide many benefits both directly and indirectly. Environmentally trees reduce pollution and produce oxygen improving air quality; they aesthetically enrich the landscape and enhance social & psychological well-being to name but a few. At Town & Country Trees we comply with the following Acts of Parliament and refer to the regulations for guidance:
